Representative Sessions Supports Grand Bay Library & Museum Project

David Sessions, Alabama Legislative Representative for District 105 has been instrumental in acquiring funding for the Grand Bay Library & Museum project and supports Citizens For a Better Grand Bay’s efforts to adapt the Grand Bay Bank Building for use as a branch of the Mobile Public Library and museum.

Located in Grand Bay’s Historic District, the 5,000 SF building will be rehabilitated and restored through local fundraising, grants and donations. The building was purchased by Mobile County in 2010 and leased to Citizens For A Better Grand Bay, so that the project could begin.

Architectural and engineering designs by STOA Architects are being funded through a grant from the Gulf Coast Resource and Development Council. More information on the RC&D can be viewed at www.gulfcoastrcd.org.

A library in Grand Bay will provide access to library amenities that are currently available to other Mobile County residents, such as Internet access and public computer terminals. Having a museum will give residents and visitors the opportunity to learn and experience the history of the Grand Bay community.

Restoring the Grand Bay Bank Building is just the first phase of the project.

Citizens For A Better Grand Bay and the Friends of the Grand Bay Library are also raising funds to stock the library for opening day.

If you want to get involved in this project or make a donation to the Library Fund you are invited to attend any of the monthly meetings of the Friends of the Library. The next meeting is Tuesday September 13th, at 6:30 PM at the Grand Bay Community Center. Call 251-281-8650 for more information or visit the Friends of the Library website at www.friendsofgbl.org.
